The Black Watch was formed from independent Highland companies raised after the 1715 Jacobite Rebellion and became a line infantry regiment in 1739. The Black Watch now serves as 3 SCOTS, the 3rd Battalion of The Royal Regiment of Scotland.

About the Badge
The Black Watch cap badge is built around a rayed and faceted star associated with the Order of the Thistle, framed by a thistle wreath and bearing the motto Nemo me impune lacessit. At the centre is St Andrew holding his saltire cross, with the Crown above and scrolls carrying the regimental title.
