Formed on 28 March 2006, the Royal Regiment of Scotland united the six historic infantry regiments of the Scottish Division—The Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment), The Royal Highland Fusiliers (Princess Margaret's Own Glasgow and Ayrshire Regiment), The King's Own Scottish Borderers, The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment), The Highlanders (Seaforth, Gordons and Camerons), and The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders (Princess Louise's). The amalgamation created Scotland's single regiment of the line and the senior Scottish line infantry regiment of the British Army, preserving centuries of military tradition within the new regiment.

The regiment preserves the honours and traditions of its six antecedent Scottish infantry regiments. Since its own formation in 2006, Royal Regiment of Scotland soldiers have deployed on operations including Iraq and Afghanistan and on duties around the world.

About the Badge

The Royal Regiment of Scotland cap badge was approved following the regiment's formation in 2006 and is unique to Scotland's senior infantry regiment. The badge comprises a silver Saltire (Cross of Saint Andrew), the national flag of Scotland, surmounted by a gold Lion Rampant and ensigned by the Crown of Scotland. Beneath, a scroll bears the regiment's motto, Nemo Me Impune Lacessit ("No One Assails Me With Impunity"), a motto long associated with Scotland and the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle.

Together, these elements symbolise Scotland's national identity, loyalty to the Sovereign, and the proud fighting traditions inherited from the regiment's six antecedent infantry regiments, representing one of the most recognisable and respected cap badges in the British Army.
