About the Badge

The Green Howards cap badge is among the most distinctive ever worn by a British infantry regiment, reflecting the regiment's long-standing association with Princess Alexandra of Denmark, later Queen Alexandra.

The design centres upon Princess Alexandra's personal cypher, superimposed over the Dannebrog (Cross of Denmark) in recognition of her Danish heritage. The cross bears the date 1875, marking the beginning of Princess Alexandra's formal association with the regiment, while the Roman numerals XIX commemorate the regiment's historic title as the 19th Regiment of Foot.

Above the central device sits Princess Alexandra's coronet, a unique feature that distinguishes this cap badge from almost every other in the British Army. Beneath, the flowing scroll proudly bears the regimental title "THE GREEN HOWARDS", completing a design renowned for its elegance, simplicity and unmistakable identity.

Unlike many later British Army cap badges that incorporate stars, wreaths or elaborate heraldic achievements, the Green Howards badge relies on its distinctive royal symbolism and clean composition, making it one of the most recognisable infantry insignia ever worn.

The Green Howards

Originally raised in 1688 by Colonel Francis Luttrell, the regiment later became the 19th Regiment of Foot before adopting the title The Green Howards (Alexandra, Princess of Wales's Own Yorkshire Regiment). Throughout more than 300 years of service, its soldiers fought with distinction across Europe, North America, India, Africa and the Far East, earning an exceptional reputation for courage, discipline and professionalism.

In 2006, the regiment amalgamated with The Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire and The Duke of Wellington's Regiment to form The Yorkshire Regiment, ensuring the traditions and achievements of The Green Howards continue to be honoured today.

Frequently Asked Questions

At Precision Military Emblems, our military badges and emblems are produced using advanced precision 3D printing technology to create highly detailed reproductions of military insignia. Unlike many manufacturers who prioritise speed, we use refined print settings and slower production processes to minimise visible layer lines and maximise accuracy. Each badge is carefully finished and quality inspected to ensure exceptional detail, depth, and definition.

When choosing a 3D military display, it is important to consider the accuracy of the badge reproduction, the quality of the craftsmanship, and the materials used throughout the display. Look for highly detailed reproductions rather than mass-produced replicas. You should also ensure the manufacturer is authorised to reproduce military insignia where required. Precision Military Emblems operates under official Ministry of Defence (MOD) licensing where applicable, ensuring displays are produced responsibly and to a professional standard.

All Precision Military Emblems displays are individually made to order. Standard production lead times are typically 5–10 working days before dispatch. Because we use precision 3D printing with enhanced quality settings, production takes longer than many standard manufacturing methods. Once dispatched, UK orders are usually delivered within 1–3 working days. Tracking information is provided with every order.
