The Parachute Regiment was established in 1942 as Britain's airborne infantry. During the Second World War its battalions served in theatres including North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Normandy, Arnhem and the Rhine. In the post-war period, the regiment served in Palestine, Cyprus, Bahrain, Aden, Northern Ireland and the Falklands, and later in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq. The Regiment’s soldiers are commonly known as Paras; the nickname “The Red Devils” came from their German opponents during the North African campaign.

About the Badge
The Parachute Regiment cap badge shows an open parachute upon spread wings, surmounted by the Royal Crest. This display reproduces the modern King Charles III / Tudor Crown pattern. It should not be confused with the George VI wartime King’s Crown badge, which belongs to an earlier reign.
