About the Badge
Celebrate the heritage of The Royal Scots (The Royal Regiment) with this officially licensed Cap Badge Display Frame. Raised in 1633 under a Royal Warrant granted by King Charles I to Sir John Hepburn for service in France, The Royal Scots became the oldest infantry regiment of the line in the British Army. On 28 March 2006 the regiment merged with the other surviving Scottish infantry regiments to form The Royal Regiment of Scotland; later that year The Royal Scots Battalion merged with The King’s Own Scottish Borderers Battalion to form The Royal Scots Borderers, 1 SCOTS. The regiment’s famous historic nickname is “Pontius Pilate’s Bodyguard”.
This display features a precision high-definition full-colour 3D-printed reproduction of The Royal Scots cap badge, presented within a premium deep box frame against a professionally pigment-printed regimental backing. The badge and backing are carefully hand mounted, with each finished display individually assembled in Leicestershire.
The soldiers’ cap badge of The Royal Scots dates from 1890, when it replaced two earlier battalion patterns. Its design centres on the figure of St Andrew holding the Saltire, set upon the regiment’s distinctive star and above the THE ROYAL SCOTS title scroll. The Royal Scots Museum records the star and cross as silver with the remaining detail in gilt; historically, the 1st Battalion wore red cloth behind St Andrew and the 2nd Battalion green. This soldiers’ pattern should not be confused with the separate officers’ cap badge, formally described as the Star of the Order of the Thistle.
